Bio
Tom began learning the piano at the age of seven, and continued his studies through to the end of year 12. After working as a cocktail pianist for two years while studying film, he decided to further his knowledge of jazz by commencing the Diploma of Jazz at Elder Conservatorium. He then progressed onto the Bachelor of Jazz, where he received a Director’s Award in 2012. In 2015 Tom completed Honours in Jazz Performance with first class.
With influences from jazz pianists such as Bill Evans, Kenny Barron, Wynton Kelly and Oscar Peterson, Tom has played at various corporate events as a solo pianist or in a piano duo or trio. In 2014 his vocal duo, the “Bel Duo,” performed as the main musical event for the Adelaide Hills Crush Festival at Nepenthe Wineries. As a member of the Royal Australian Navy Band he has performed solo piano sets at various Defence Force VIP events, including the VIP reception following the launching of HMAS Hobart.
Having played with cover bands such as The Baker Boys, and Party Club Band, Tom has considerable experience in a variety of pop, rock and other contemporary styles. He has performed in the orchestra for various musicals, including The Producers, Evita, Footloose and The Wiz.
Tom works as both an accompanist and teacher, having accompanied many vocalists for auditions and exams as well as a working as a repetiteur for musicals such as Hairspray and The Producers.
A keen composer and arranger, Tom has been noted for his contemporary jazz compositions at such events as Adelaide Jazz Collective and COMA in his band the Tom Cole Trio.
